Last
year, the girls softball team
had a very impressive season.
The team finished with a 17-5
record and made it all the way
to the district semi-finals before
losing to Parkland.
This season,
the softball team will be looking
to build on last year’s success and
make it to the district championship game.
One of the key players on last years’s
team was Laura Jaxheimer, ‘06, a first
team all conference selection at pitcher
who recieved a full scholarship to Hofstra
University. She will be a key player again
this year if the team hopes to make it to
finals this season.
“We really want to walk
away with the district title
this year,” said Jaxheimer. “I’m
trying really hard this year,
and I’m
trying to be a good leader and
a good example for the rest of
the team,” she said.
Another
key player on the team this year
is senior catcher Sam Lawrence,
who also was a first team all
conference selection.
“Last season’s loss
in the semi-finals gave us better
perspective on how hard we have
to work this year. Nothing is
going to be handed to us. It
gave us something to strive for
this season,” Lawrence
stated.
Sophomore Mercedes Spengler,
who inherits the number one pitcher
role from Jaxheimer, will also
be a key player this year. Spengler
had three wins last season, a
rare accomplishment for a freshman,
and with more experience, she
is looking to do even better
this season.
Head coach Mrs.Michele
Laubauch belives the team has
great senior leadership.
“A big thing is our senior leadership,” said
Laubach, who has four seniors on this year’s
team. She also believes in the rest of the
team.
“They have the talent to make their
mark and win something. We want to win our
division, leagues, districts, and advance
to states. For us, that’s very achievable,” she
said.
