Liberty High School Celebrates Black History Month
On Friday, February 25, 2010, Liberty High School will be celebrating Black History Month at 7:00 pm in the LHS Auditorium. The program, entitled, "Honoring the Past, Looking Toward the Future" will feature an evening of music, dance, and oratory. Please plan to attend.
DeSales Regional College Fair
Attention students, DeSales University is pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Association for College Admissions Counseling will be holding a college fair at DeSales University on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 6pm to 8pm. This college fair will feature 100 different State, Private, and Community Colleges and Universities from across the nation. Liberty Student wins Regional Poetry Out Loud Competition
Poetry Out Loud is a National Recitation contest in its sixth year. Junior Aidan Gilrain-McKenna won the LibertyHigh School contest and moved on to compete in the Regional Finals sponsored by the Allentown Art Museum and held at the Baum School of Art on February 10th, 2011.
Aidan read two poems, "In Just" by E.E. Cummings and "Poem with One Fact" by Donald Hall. He is involved in theatre productions including his most recent casting as Ichabod Crane in the fall play here at LHS. He is pictured here with his poetry-coaches, Mrs. Chickey and Ms. Jacoby.
Poetry Out Loud is presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Allentown Art Museum, the program encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance and competition. The winners of this competition will advance to the state competition, March 14th, held at the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg. National Finals are April 28th–29th in Washington, D.C.

LIBERTY THEATRE PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THE SPRING MUSICAL
Liberty Theatre will soon be rehearsing How To Succeed In Business…Without Really Trying for performance April 14, 15, 16, 2011. Gayle Justice reunites with Eric and Stephanie Smith, as this directing team works with the theater students to recreate the "delightfully irreverent" musical last performed at Liberty in 1996. Follow the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch as he uses a little handbook to climb the corporate ladder from window washer to high-powered executive in short order. Tickets will be available in March. Cabrera awarded the John Fenstamaker Memorial Scholarship and takes 112 lb class at 17th Annual Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic
Anthony Cabrera captured the 112 lb. championship at the 17th Annual Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic. In addition to earning his 100th victory earlier in the tournament, only the 11th wrestler to do so in Liberty's 88-year history, Cabrera was also awarded the John Fenstamaker Memorial Scholarship before the tournament finals. The scholarship, named for Liberty High School alumnus and former assistant wrestling coach, was presented by John's father, mother, sister, and other family members present.
Brett Marino earned his first high school tournament title on December 29th by winning the 17th Annual Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic. Marino earned an 11-2 major decision in the finals to secure the victory, after defeated the #1 ranked wrestler in the semi-finals to advance to the championship round.
Grimaldi Gonzalez, in his first year on varsity, accomplished an early-season goal by advancing to the finals in the 17th Annual Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic. Although Gonzalez eventually placed second, he achieved an impressive feat for a sophomore.
As a team, Liberty High School finished sixth at the tournament, placing six of their wrestlers on the podium.
LHS Art Club Members win High School Division at Peeps Fest
Senior Liberty Art Club members Nick Gonzalez, Yarelis Calderon, Julie Laky, Sylvia Branco and Tiffany VanHorn won the High School Division for their Peep-filled diaroma, "The Phantom of the Opera." For winning, the students received an awards certificate and a free tour of the Just Born Candy Factory.
November Science Students of the Month
The Liberty High School Science Department would like to congratulate the following students for their exceptional work in their science classes. Erica Allred was nominated for her initiative and leadership in laboratory work in her Research Biotechnology class and Anthony Colon was nominated for his hard work and outstanding participation in his Earth & Space Science class. The Science Department is very proud of these fine science students.
Liberty High School senior Juan Carlos Rodriguez studies genetics at Rutgers University
Liberty High School senior Juan Carlos Rodriguez spent his summer studying the genome of duckweed at Rutgers University this summer. Now, the LHS Senior has three of the DNA sequences he isolated listed in the National Center for Biotechnology Information database.
