General Announcements


Attention all students : The lost and found in the main office is overflowing again – If you lost your glasses, keys, coat, shoes, work boots or gym clothes, PLEASE rescue these items!

Winter Art Show - Come join us and celebrate the Holiday Season this evening in the Hurricane Art Gallery. View student's art work on display from 3-D Design, Photography, Studio Art and Ceramics. Doors will open at 5:30 PM and admission is free. Make it a double treat and stay for the Chorus Concert at 7:30 PM. ($5)

SENIORS - If you have not yet scheduled your senior portrait with Christmas City Studio, please contact them ASAP.  Portraits must be completed by Jan. 31, 2017 to appear in the yearbook.   www.christmascitystudio.com

LHS Blood Drive – Will take place on Thurs. Dec. 22.  Please pick up forms in the main office. 

Liberty High School’s Debate Team – For the second year in a row, our team has made it into the final round of the EPC.  We also have the honor this year to have been selected as the host school for this event on Monday Dec. 19.   We are seeded 7th, and will be well represented  by the winning team of Steven Schneible, Emma Deegan, Katja Magyarics, and Lucy Kitch-Peck.  Please wish these students the best of luck.  They have worked hard this season to get this far in a very competitive division and conference.

LHS Recycling and Sustainability ClubStudent volunteers are needed to collect and coordinate recycling. Earn community service while teaching the how and why to recycling so we can live more sustainably! See Mr. Zahm or Mr. Andreucci to sign up.

Psychology Club - Book Fair at Barnes and Noble on Sat. Dec. 17 from 3-7pm Lehigh Valley Mall location.  Enjoy holiday music or get your gifts wrapped for a donation. Online purchases made from Dec. 17-22 also benefit our club!

Fellowship of Christian AthletesEvery Wed. at 7am in Rm. 406.  Breakfast provided.

College Visits, Scholarships & Enrichment Programs

SAT/ACT Practice Test - Our Guidance department is again sponsoring a practice test for juniors and sophomores interested in gaining valuable information on the differences in the college admissions testing formats, in how your scores will be calculated, and in determining which test best fits you. The test is scheduled for January 25th at 8am.   The cost is $10.00 (unrefundable). Space is limited. See your counselor for the flyer and directions to register. 

Northampton Community College - Will be at LHS on Monday, December 12th for Instant Decision Day. This is the perfect opportunity for students who have not applied to college or who have an expressed interest in NCC to meet with admissions representatives & have their applications reviewed. If you are interested in participating in this event, please sign up on Naviance and meet with your school counselor.

Juniors: The Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) at Carnegie Mellon was established in order to provide a summer enrichment experience in the sciences and mathematics for talented Pennsylvania high school students and to encourage them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The program provides instruction in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science, with emphasis on collaborative learning and team research.  This program is FREE if accepted.  Contact your counselor for details.  Deadline for applications is January 31, 2017.

Sophomores and Juniors:  The Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship at Lehigh University and the University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy, former Governor’s school programs, are accepting applications for summer 2017.  These are summer programs with a fee. Information is available in your SSC.  Contact your counselor for details.  Deadline for applications are February 15, 2017.

Lutron's Explorer Post - takes place in Coopersburg, PA and offers high school students an after-school opportunity to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  The program is taught by Lutron Engineers and runs from 6-7:30PM every Thursday night starting on October 6th through May 2017.  Visit this website for more information and to RSVP.

Attention Seniors - Stop by your SSC to pick up your college folder.  Your counselor cannot process your college applications without the completion of certain forms.  As a reminder, the request must be submitted to your counselor at least 10 school days before the deadline.

Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition - Student must apply to Boston University to be eligible for a 4 year full tuition. Every year, Boston University welcomes about 20 outstanding students to the Trustee Scholars Program. Many of our current Scholars had perfect 4.0 grade point averages in high school and typically ranked in the top 5–10% of their class.  Deadline to apply is Dec. 1, 2016.

WDIY Youth Media Program - Do you know want to benefit from gaining first-hand experience in radio production under the guidance of experienced professionals? Applications are now being accepted for this spring's WDIY Youth Media Program and space is limited.  No previous experience in radio or journalism is necessary, as the Youth Media Program will guide students through a curriculum including: Writing and voicing for radio, interview techniques, use of recording and production equipment, and editing recordings for broadcast.  The program is FREE for accepted students.  See your counselor for more information.

Doodle 4 Google - Students in grades K-12 are invited to take part in the contest to create a doodle that tells the world “What I see for the future.” From crayons to clay, graphic design, or even food, young artists can utilize any materials to bring their creation to life. Like all Google Doodles, each doodle must incorporate the letters G-o-o-g-l-e. One national winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship. The contest is open for entries from September 14, 2016 to December 2, 2016.
