Hitchings Speaks to Senior Class

Senior Breakfast Speaker

2003 Liberty Graduate Jarret Hitchings spoke to the Class of 2013 today at Senior Breakfast. Hitchings, whose story has been documented by Discovery Health, survived five surgeries and 53 days of hospitalization after being critically injured on the football field as a Junior. Hitchings spoke to the assembled students about how much going to Liberty, and being a Liberty student ment to him, and how it aided his recovery. He told the students that he and his classmates found that they were better prepared for college than freshmen from other schools, and while they might be graduating shortly, a part of them will always be part of the "Hurricane." Click here for a slideshow of today's Senior Breakfast.

Best Marching Band

Lehigh Valley Music Awards

More kudos for Liberty High School's very own Grenadier Band: Music fans throughout the Lehigh Valley have again voted the LHSGB as the region's "Best Marching Band". The honor was announced at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards ceremony, yesterday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Steel Stacks. The Grenadier Band remains sole winner of the award, three years running, since the inception of the "Best Marching Band" category by the LVMA back in 2010. The old adage, "You're never a star in your own back yard," obviously does not apply to the LHSGB. This most recent honor comes on the heels of last month's announcement that the Grenadier Band will perform at the 2014 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. It's always great to know that our band is appreciated not only abroad, but right here at home, in Bethlehem and throughout the Lehigh Valley! Thank you to the Lehigh Valley Music Awards for reaffirming the talent and accomplishment of our Grenadier Band; and continued congratulations to all 265 members of the Liberty High School Grenadier Band... Job well done!

Everything's coming up roses for Grenadier Band

Tournament of Roses Logo

Exciting news for The Liberty High School Grenadier Band: Just yesterday, band members learned that, from the hundreds of bands from around the world who applied, they have been selected to march in the January 1, 2014, PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE!

The Grenadiers were a smash hit back in 2009 at their first appearance at the Rose Parade. And they look forward to again representing Bethlehem and all of Pennsylvania in 2014, before a worldwide television audience of over half a BILLION viewers. Congratulations to the Liberty High School Grenadier Band on another amazing accomplishment!

Mr. Gary Leonard, Vice Chair of the Tournament of Roses Music Selection Committee, flew in from Pasadena, CA, and surprised our students/parents/fans with the news Saturday at the Freedom-Liberty game at the finale of our band's halftime performance. The LHSGB marched centerfield in parade formation, playing "I Love A Parade", as Mr. Leonard, Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan, PA Representative Steve Samuelson, BASD Superintendent Joseph Roy, and LHS Principal Harrison Bailey III, led the way, complete with a Bethlehem PD motorcycle escort, and an elevated 15' x 25' Tournament of Roses flag serving as a backdrop. Mr. Leonard's announcement was spontaneously greeted with a thunderous ovation and a salvo of fireworks.
