Everything's coming up roses for Grenadier Band

Tournament of Roses Logo

Exciting news for The Liberty High School Grenadier Band: Just yesterday, band members learned that, from the hundreds of bands from around the world who applied, they have been selected to march in the January 1, 2014, PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE!

The Grenadiers were a smash hit back in 2009 at their first appearance at the Rose Parade. And they look forward to again representing Bethlehem and all of Pennsylvania in 2014, before a worldwide television audience of over half a BILLION viewers. Congratulations to the Liberty High School Grenadier Band on another amazing accomplishment!

Mr. Gary Leonard, Vice Chair of the Tournament of Roses Music Selection Committee, flew in from Pasadena, CA, and surprised our students/parents/fans with the news Saturday at the Freedom-Liberty game at the finale of our band's halftime performance. The LHSGB marched centerfield in parade formation, playing "I Love A Parade", as Mr. Leonard, Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan, PA Representative Steve Samuelson, BASD Superintendent Joseph Roy, and LHS Principal Harrison Bailey III, led the way, complete with a Bethlehem PD motorcycle escort, and an elevated 15' x 25' Tournament of Roses flag serving as a backdrop. Mr. Leonard's announcement was spontaneously greeted with a thunderous ovation and a salvo of fireworks.

Liberty High School 89 years ago

Visit the 1923 Dedication Book

In May of 1923, Liberty High School was dedicated by the Bethlehem School Board to the citizens of Bethlehem. To commemorate that day, a leather bound book was published. Inside it's pages is not only a history of education in Bethlehem, but a comprehensive look at the creation of Liberty High School. For the first time in 89 years, and through the efforts of teacher and alumni Ross Makary, the enitre book is now available electronically here at the Liberty web site. Click here to visit.

Liberty students held a small ceremony this morning in memoriam of the eleventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Senior Joseph Erceg introduced the Liberty Pipe Corps and said a few words about that fateful day to the assembled students, teachers and community members gathered in front of the school. The short ceremony was broadcast throughout the Liberty so all classes could witness the event.
