Liberty High School Presents:

Young Writer Online

Liberty's student literary magazine.

by Hannah Newman (Class of 2016)

I carved your name into a tree
in the woods behind my house
the wind froze my fingers
and my hand slipped
so the heart turned out crooked.
I had laughed it off
knowing you wouldn't mind
but before I got to show you
the tree was cut down
and turned into firewood
but I think it fit our love
better than any carving ever could
because your touch sets me on fire
and I know I set you on fire too.
